Amazon SKUs

SKU (stock keeping unit ) is an identification, usually alphanumeric, of a particular product that allows it to be tracked for inventory purposes. Typically, a SKU is associated with any purchasable item in a store or catalog. Informed groups and manages your listings using the SKU's that you set. It is important to make sure that all of your listings have their proper SKU's set before being downloaded into your Informed account.

For example: A woman's blouse of a particular style and size might have an SKU of "3726-8," meaning "Style 3726, size 8." The SKU identification for a product may or may not be made visible to a customer. A SKU is not the same as a product model number from a manufacturer, although the model number could form all or part of the SKU. The SKU is established by the seller.

Custom IDs on eBay

Since eBay does not require a SKU when listing an item, it is common for eBay sellers to list without a SKU. Informed uses SKU's to identify and group your listings on all your marketplaces. If a SKU is not set on your eBay listings, they will not be properly grouped together with the same listings on your other marketplaces.

Follow the instructions below to ensure your listings all have SKU's. Please note: You must be using selling manager (free) or selling manager pro (paid) to set SKU's on eBay.

  1. Log in to your eBay account and proceed to the "My eBay" page.
  2. In the left menu, under the selling manager/selling manger menu, click on "Active"
  3. Your active listings will be displayed and you will see a column called "Custom Label" which is where you would enter the SKU for that listing. In order for it to be grouped properly, it must match exactly with the SKU on your other marketplaces.
  4. After you add your eBay account, your eBay listings will be downloaded with the SKU's that you set.

IMPORTANT:  When changes are made to a SKU, the original listing in Informed needs be deleted in order for the SKU name to update,. Once deleted it usually takes 5-15 minutes to come back in. It's important to know that min/max pricing and strategies must be re-assigned to the SKU as it will be downloaded back in as a "brand new" listing.
